Creator’s note

Why I made this template

I credit most of what I know about cooking to using this system.

I built the first version in 2022, when a health condition meant I needed a very specific diet. It wasn’t something I could outsource. I was living alone in a city, working a demanding office job, and handling every meal myself while trying to stay well.

I had to stop relying on takeout. The greasy, fried food that made weeknights easy was the same food that made me feel worse. But cooking for one comes with its own logistics, and they were wearing me down.

At first, I just wanted to track my pantry so I’d stop over-buying at the store and throwing out food I forgot I had. Over time, it grew into a full system that runs my meals every week: what I’m eating, what I need to buy, and what I can make with what’s already in my kitchen.

Four years later, I still use it every week.

Is this template for you?

This is for you if…

  • You’re tired of deciding what’s for dinner every single night.
  • You keep buying groceries you already have.
  • You throw out food you forgot was in the fridge.
  • You have specific dietary needs and can’t rely on dining out.
  • You live alone or cook for one and want less mental load.
  • You have a demanding job and little energy left for meal logistics.
  • You want one place for your recipes instead of a dozen bookmarks.

This isn’t for you if…

  • You want someone else to pick your meals for you, like a meal kit or meal plan service.
  • You eat out or order in most nights and plan to keep it that way.
  • You want calorie counting or detailed nutrition tracking.
  • You’re looking for a recipe collection, not a planning system.
  • You prefer planning on paper and don’t want anything digital.
  • You want a plug-and-play app with no setup at all.
  • You plan meals for a large household with very different needs and want separate profiles.
